BEHIND THE SCENES
Over the next few days, the Crafts Study Centre will be participating in this year's national Heritage Open day scheme. Professor Simon Olding, the director of the Crafts Study Centre and Jean Vacher, the centre's curator will be leading a tour of the centre's exhibitions. Visitors will also have the rare opportunity to view the centre's reserve collections.
The centre's reserve collection includes textiles by Barron and Larcher – which you may have already seen featured within previous issues of Selvedge. Using their own cloth and cutting their own blocks, the design duo produced some beautiful printed designs throughout the 1920s and 30s. Specifically for these few heritage days, the centre is bringing together a specially curated assortment of objects for a more in depth discussion and analysis.
The Heritage open days scheme provides the brilliant opportunity to see and learn about places that are usually closed to the public or charge for admission – ultimately strengthening individuals' relationship to their local communities and neighbourhoods. If you get the chance do visit the Crafts Study centre in Farnham this weekend.
