Design at the Transport Museum
All at once apparently forgettable and completely familiar. The fabrics of our buses and trains are not obviously glamorous or 'artisan' but they are a part of our every day lives and a reflection of tastes and visual codes. The transport museum offers the opportunity to look at this often over looked world of design through the ages.
Only occurring twice a year, don't miss The Museum Depot in Acton's open weekend this Saturday and Sunday. The museum has over 370,000 objects in its archives, including ceramic tiles and textiles in amongst historical vehicles, sheds and signs.
Read about textiles designed for transport in issues 36 and 44 of Selvedge magazine.
