California-based clothing company Eleri Design was established in 2013 by Erin Alders. Trained as an artist and structural engineer, Erin is a self-taught fashion designer, inspired by nature. She combines a love of traditional garments with both old and new processes in clothing and textile design. Erin has a passion for weaving and natural dyes, digital design and machine knitting.

Erin explains: "My background in art and math, mixed with my love of the outdoors, has given me the inspiration to create beautiful and unique garments. I am inspired by nature because there is pattern, colour, beauty, and efficiency throughout.”

Erin uses small-scale manufacturing processes and materials that are environmentally friendly, putting care into each garment produced. “Eleri Design is committed to environmental and social responsibility and complete transparency in all that we do. Eleri Design processes respect animals, resources, the planet, and the people who make the garments.”

“My love of design and art, combined with a strong desire to offer long-lasting, sustainable, and ethically made clothing is a dream come true.  I am very fortunate to be part of a shift to work and design with natural and man-made materials that apply both tradition and the latest in digital knit technologies. I hope my creations make women feel radiant, alive and powerful.”

Erin creates very limited runs of timeless garments and accessories. For example, her current item is a cape top, designed using subtle geometric butterfly graphics, paired with digitally knitted pleats and curves. Erin designed the textile and pattern, and the tops were knitted in New York City at Stoll America from a light-weight merino wool that is GOTS certified organic.

Erin has recently been developing and prototyping a modern woven corset, “I wanted to figure out a modern corset design that women could wear as a fun accessory.” She will be taking orders for the corset in January.
