EMERGING WEAVERS TAKE NOTE
PickOne is a textiles studio based in Edinburgh, owned and operated by weaver James Donald who uses the space to create a range of products, including glasses, cards, pins and a colourful collection of scarves made from lambs wool, linen and mercerised cotton. James is now opening this spacious studio to recent graduates who are seeking space and equipment to further develop their weaving practices.
Approximately 17 x 6 metres and located in the vibrant Coburg House Art Studios complex in the heart of Leith, the Open Access facility has been in part set up with the generous assistance of the Inches Carr Trust and Creative Scotland. Offering young artisans the space to develop their work, James sees PickOne as a place where a new generation’s worth of skills, techniques and upcoming collections can receive the time and focus they need to be developed and honed for a successful integration into the their respective markets.
Providing a space with 24 hour studio access and contemporary weave equipment, mentoring/business advice will also be built into this service, designed to give recent graduates an affordable and professional space with quality contemporary equipment to kick-start their creative practice.
