Emma Neen's Spring Fair Choices
I interned at Selvedge two summers ago and have been officially part of the team for 8 months – in that time I've seen 5 fairs come and go and have become a fairly seasoned window shopper. This spring (as ever) it's colour that is catching my eye...
In all this time, I've never caught more than a glimpse of Terry Macey and Angelika Elsebach stand due to the crowds of visitors and stall holders alike. But this year is the year that I finally get to try on one of their period inspired coats and see the bright Spring collection for myself, unless of course you all read this and I am once again standing on tiptoes.
You may have spotted them last year with their towers of handwoven baskets in the small hall, this year will be The Basket Room's third Selvedge Fair, and I am so pleased to have them back. Holly and Camilla's bags, bicycle and storage baskets are woven with wonderfully bright colours, made by small collectives in Africa. And with all this beautiful weather their colourful bicycle baskets are perfect for a fair weather cyclist such as myself.
As anyone who knows me well will tell you, I am a firm believer in hats. My wardrobe is filled with fedora's, floppies, berets, straw boaters and bowlers, I simply cannot resist. So imagine my joy when I learnt there would be another opportunity to indulge my obsession at this year's Selvedge Spring Fair with new exhibitors MU DU. Their clean design and strong silhouettes demand to be noticed –I know where I'm heading when the clock strikes eleven...
