Freestyle Embroidery Workshop
Join us on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June for a Freestyle Embroidery workshop hosted by Miesje Chafer. Miesje is an artist, maker and designer living in Southsea, Hampshire whose practice includes hand screen printing bold, bright designs onto fabric which she then uses to make a range of homewares and accessories. More recently, in the pursuit of a more expressive form of making she started using embroidery, combining screen printing and hand stitching to create one-off pieces of work. Her work seeks to explore the possibilities of texture, form and colour within hand stitching.
In Miesje’s freestyle embroidery workshop the emphasis is on playful experimentation within a comfortable, relaxed environment. You can choose between three different kits to get you started on your embroidery journey. Participants will begin with learning the basic embroidery stitches using a hand printed sampler, then move onto your kit to put these stitches into practice.
The aim of this workshop is to allow you to be more creative with your hand stitching, whilst still having a set design to work within. You are encouraged to explore how using multiple, repetitive stitches can be built up to create texture, pattern and form. This workshop is ideal for those new to embroidery, or those looking to refresh forgotten skills in a relaxed, open environment. It's freestyle - you can't go wrong!
A material pack will be sent to participants prior to the workshop. Tickets must be booked two weeks in advance of the workshop so participants can receive materials in good time.
