Home and Colonial

May 28, 2015

Just 45 minutes outside of central London, in the historic market town of Berkhamsted, Home and Colonial is a spectacular showroom of antiques set over five differently themed floors - including furniture, textiles, vintage clothing, jewellery and books. ‘Considered to be one of the UK’s most attractive and innovative antiques and interiors shops’, Home and Colonial houses antiques from a collective of over 30 dealers so there really is something for everyone. HomeColonial The antique textiles alone are worth leaving London for - from linens, laces and cottons to Victorian quilts, Cantonese hand-embroidered shawls and 19th century beadwork - this emporium pays homage to textiles from all over the world. Alternatively you could evoke a sense of nostalgia and head for the vintage clothing floor where you can choose from a stunning array of 1930's and 40's evening wear, or, if fabulous prints and platforms are more your thing, visit the 60's and 70's day wear selection. In addition, Home and Colonial are now also stocking unique antique lace and haberdashery by BrocanteArt.  HomeColonial2 There is also a charming rooftop tearoom so set aside a couple hours to visit this treasure-trove and even better, Home and Colonial are now stocking Selvedge Magazine so you can pick up a copy while you are there!

I will be in London in August and would like to visit Home and Colonial. Is there a train or bus that would get me there?

You can take the train from London Euston to Berkhamsted. It takes about 30 mins and Home & Colonial is only a 5-10 min walk from the station.

I went by train from Euston, takes 35 minutes to get to Berkhamsted, and is a short walk to the High Street. Four floors of antiques and interiors, a wonderful eclectic mix – just loved it.

A big thumbs up for a lovely day and superb home cooking in The Cafe in the Attic.

Hi Pam,
Yes there is a train from London Euston to Berkhamsted. It takes just over half an hour. It would be lovely to see you at H&C, its a wonderful place to visit.

Dear Pam,

The shop is located at 134 High Street, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, HP4 3AT. It is a walking distance from the Berkhamsted train station. To catch a train there, you would have to go through Euston Station (Central London) For more information and opening hours please visit www.homeandcolonial.co.uk. Have a lovely time!
