Last call: Textiles Residency in Iceland
The Icelandic Textile Centre is looking for applications from artists who work with both traditional and contemporary forms of textile and fibre arts, or whose artistic practices are intrinsically linked to the use of textiles, including performance, costume/theatre, installation, wearable art and fashion.
The residency is based in "Kvennaskólinn", the former Women's College of Blönduós, and as such has private rooms with shared living and open plan shared studios, a loom weaving loft, and a small gallery attached to the dye studio, called "Bílskúr Gallerí".In winter the sun rises and sets at different times every day, in December the shortest day is 21 December, with about two hours daylight, and a glow of dusk and dawn that extends beyond that. The increments between sunrise and sunset each day increases dramatically, by March we are back to almost twelve hours night and twelve hours light. It is really the most beautiful daylight, a very condensed version of beauty. This would no doubt be an exceptional experience for anyone looking for a residency, or adventure, to further their work.
