Southeast Asian textiles historically served as markers of identity, making distinctions between communities using colour, pattern and technique. Out of Southeast Asia: Art That Sustains explores existing traditional textiles and their contemporary interpretations. Within the exhibition, which marks the temporary close of the Textile Museum before it moves to its new location, the work of four modern textile artists, whose designs and techniques are inspired by traditional Southeast Asian textiles will be displayed alongside existing collections.

Wish I could have seen this exhibit. Sigh.
Sounds interesting! It also makes me wonder the degree to which textiles originating out of the Western tradition also serve as markers of identity.
