Learn Block Printing
Join us in April for a one-day Block Print Workshop with designer Molly Mahon. The workshop will be inspired by the English garden and you will have the opportunity to print napkins, a table runner, a cushion or a length of fabric with Molly's new floral blocks.
Molly Mahon’s printed fabrics bring cloth and colour alive. Based in Sussex, Molly is a British printmaker whose designs are applied to fabrics, wallpapers and a growing range of homewares. Inspired by nature, travels to India and inspiration from her daily life, Molly turns images into repeat designs and carves them into a wooden block which is then used to print.
Having studied Anthropology and History of Art at Newcastle University Molly's creative desire prompted her to start taking part in workshops, one of which was in block printing. She immediately fell in love with the craft and for two years worked for a block printer, practising and learning the art. Her first commission came from a friend who wanted some block printed wallpaper for her newly arrived Shepherds Hut and she has not looked back since, setting up her own textile company that is thriving.
Held in The Flower Factory Studio, Columbia Road, London, home of the world-famous flower market, the workshop is in the heart of East London’s creative spaces. Designed with Scandinavian simplicity, the studio has large Victorian windows across two of the walls to allow natural light to brighten the studio – perfect for a printing workshop. In the morning students will learn the basics of block printing, before practising on paper and then moving on to fabric. The workshop includes materials, lunch and refreshments.
