Live Colourfully
Whilst living in Kerala, southern India, Lucy Ferguson saw decorative parasols used in religious celebrations. Inspired by the riotous colours, she bought her own, little knowing this would lead to a business. On her return to east London, she brought her parasols with her and soon, no occasion was complete without one. Eventually, the East London Parasol Company was born.
With collections inspired by every single colour of the rainbow, each sumptuous parasol produced by the East London Parasol Company is lovingly handcrafted by artisans based in India and Bali. Created from beautiful block-printed fabrics featuring parrots and palm prints, the collection reflects Lucy's motto of 'live colourfully' in designs of hot pinks and lime greens - through to oranges, sky blue and canary yellow. The bright hues of each parasol retain their style from season to season and finishing touches of carefully chosen tassels, pom-poms and pretty, delicate trims adorn each parasol, making a statement in any outdoor setting.
Lucy works locally with the artisans throughout the year in India and Indonesia. She also sources gorgeous fabrics while on her travels. The parasols are a labour of love and artisanal alchemy; the silver fringes are made in Kerala by the temple umbrella makers while the canopies are made using hand block printed cottons from Jaipur and hand-painted fabrics from Bali. Each parasol and cushion is made by hand, using traditional handcrafts to create contemporary designs. The East London Parasol Company is committed to supporting the work of artisans, creating high quality competitive goods and sustaining their craft. Many of these processes can't be mechanised, and if they were the beauty and personality of the fabrics would be lost.
