Lora Avedian Virtual Workshop
Our planned workshop with artist Lora Avedian will now take place online over Zoom and two dates are available: Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July 2020, 10am - 1pm GMT (London, UK). Tickets for the Mixed-Media Flowers, Virtual Workshop includes a pack of materials, sent to you ahead of time, so that you have everything you need to take part. Lora will be teaching hand embellishment and embroidery techniques to create a floral composition.
Lora is a London based multidisciplinary artist, who graduated with a Masters in Mixed Media Textiles from the Royal College of Art in 2017. She depicts elements of narrative through textile and craft processes. Lora uses traditional embroidery and embellishment techniques to make modern artefacts, which look as beautiful on the body as they do on a wall. She favours slow processes, focusing on short run and bespoke projects.
Lora has worked in set design, prop making, is a prolific creator of paper flora and fauna. She works regularly with a wide variety of collaborators and practitioners to expand her own practice, and with such a wide repertoire of skills and techniques it is no wonder that her work spans an increasingly varied range of applications and industries – fashion, publishing and film – with clients such as Ally Capellino, Condé Nast Traveller and ITV to name but a few.
Lora’s work with set design offers a natural transition into her textile practice, as she maintains elements of the former when planning her fabric and embellishment work. Her ‘garments’ are not solely restricted to the realm of clothing, but are intensely detailed works of art that would not be out of place away from the body. She forms worlds and environments that surround the human form, often as garments or as interior structures that surround the viewer with colour, texture and beauty.
During the workshop Laura will demonstrate and teach two techniques, and by the end of the session you will have a sampler to keep as a reference, and a small composition on linen.
