MADEMAKERS online is back for a bumper November edition – an online show featuring the work of 140 contemporary British makers. Virtual galleries open at 7pm on Thursday 5 November until 6pm on Sunday 8 November. MADEMAKERS is an online craft and design fair by Tutton & Young. It began during the first UK lockdown in response to event cancellations and gallery closures. Since then, it has become a regular show, where visitors can expect to find limited edition pieces, one-off collectables and even some discounts, all from the comfort of home. The organisers say, “Our monthly MADEMAKERS shows are an attempt to replicate online some of what has been lost and to try to connect to audiences that an actual show wouldn’t reach.” November’s MADE focuses on London-based designers - it would have been held at One Marylebone in normal times - and features 28 textile artists.
The event also includes furniture maker Sadie Dorchester. A former Marie Claire Fashion Director, Dorchester was inspired to make and design her colour-block range of furniture when she was unable to find stylish yet functional British-made storage solutions for her own home. Seeking inspiration for vibrant colour and pattern in the modernist art movement led to bold adaptable designs crafted using durable materials. She says, “In our changing world, customers are looking for bespoke, handsome yet practical pieces of furniture, made from natural materials that compliment their existing interior and have longevity.” Dorchester offers a range of handmade functional furniture, including ottomans and footstools using recycled Italian wool available in 55 colours. She also has a range of cushions made from fabric leftover from making larger pieces.
