In advance of Mother's Day in North America, we look to some of the art world's most accomplished artists for their individual takes on the bonds between mothers and their children. Almost immediately, this train of thought brought us to none other than the renowned French-American artist Louise Bourgeois, who often cited her own relationship with her mother through the tactility of textiles... 

Domestic life was a consistent thread through much of Louise Bourgeois’ artwork, and the relationship between mother and child is no exception. Born on Christmas Day in 1911, Bourgeois heralded the therapeutic aspects of art-making, and used textiles as a way to explore the tender and political nuances found in familial ties…
