Nordic Knit Night

Join us for a cosy evening of online talks on 25 November and be immersed in Nordic crafts. During the evening - Nordic Knitting - Cecilie Telle will tell us how she creates striking knitted and felted woollen goods; Annemor Sundbø will share her experiences as a woven textile designer and teacher, and Arne & Carlos will talk about their work preserving the iconic craft of Norwegian knitwear. Arne & Carlos (Arne Nerjordet and Carlos Zachrisson) are designers, textile artists and authors. They are best known for their original, colourful and visually striking designs as well as their books and their work is highly influenced by their everyday life in rural Norway. They recently launched a weekly video series 'Sit and Knit for a Bit with Arne and Carlos' where they talk about the projects they are working on and share free knitting blocks, we asked them about it.

Can you give us a preview of your talk for Selvedge?
We are going to talk about how our Scandinavian culture and the traditions in Norway influence our design work.
Why did you start Sit and Knit for a Bit (a weekly podcast) and what has the response been?
We started the podcast because we can’t travel to meet our fans. The response has been amazing, our YouTube channel has reached 100,000 subscribers and loads of people look forward to Wednesdays when we post new episodes.
Do you think that crafts have helped people during the lockdowns?
Absolutely! It’s easy to download knitting patterns online and everyone has a stash of yarn. We personally have kept our sanity by knitting during lockdown.

What are you working on at the moment?
Currently, we are not working. Instead, we are sewing our own folk costumes. This is something we have wanted to do, but never had the time. Until now.
