This year marks Allanbank Mill Steading’s 25th open studio. To celebrate, special guest artist Dorothy Caldwell will be visiting the gallery where Charlie Poulsen and Pauline Burbidge will be showing a selection of new work. The artists will be exhibiting some new work alongside familiar pieces recognisable from their joint exhibition called Songs for Winter, which was on show earlier this year at the Edinburgh City Art Centre.
Poulsen has been producing many new large-scale drawings since the Edinburgh exhibition. He will be showing some sculpture and examples of his Growing Sculpture can be seen. Burbidge has developed new cyanotype printed works, and also new Quiltline pieces, stitched on her wonderful Handi quilter long-arm machine.
Each year they prepare for a whole month before the open studio, clearing out and transforming their studios, turning them into exhibiting galleries. Spending hours getting the garden up-to-scratch for the event. This is a long established Scottish Borders annual summer event open for four days, and well worth the visit.
