Sancho's Instagram Takeover

Sancho’s was co-founded by Kalkidan Legesse, who moved to the UK as a child from Ethiopia. She met her partner Vidmantas, who is Lithuanian, at Exeter University in 2012, and together they opened their first shop in Exeter in 2014. Through their social networks and online presence, they work to challenge biases within the industry such as size inclusivity and racism whilst curating collections of ethically made products, made from sustainable fabrics and recycled materials.

Sustainability is at the heart of Sancho’s mission

For them, sustainability means finding alternative products for their customers’ needs that are made ethically from trusted sources. Always learning and striving to do better as a company, Kalkidan and Vidmantas aim to make Sancho’s the best it can be for people and the planet. Whether it’s long lasting rucksacks made from recycled plastic bottles, or soft and supportive bamboo underwear dyed with natural dyes – they source a range of quality products from all over the world that have a common goal, to be the better alternative.

In December Sancho’s won ‘High street shop of 2020’ —a true reflection of their hard work and commitment to their mission, as well as their loyal base of customers who nominated them. This award came with grant money that meant they were finally able to develop their own range of branded loungewear, made ethically from soft organic cotton. As swathes of people have had to work from home in the past year, and large numbers will continue to do so, lounge wear has become increasingly popular and is the new work ‘uniform’ for many. Now, Sancho’s can provide their wonderful community with an ethically made option made from organic cotton, branded with the Sancho’s logo, in a variety of bright and neutral colours.
