Statement Sticks

Guest blog post from bluebellgray. Fi Douglas, a graduate of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, set up bluebellgray with a clear vision and style in mind; her love of colour and all things floral combined with a desire to create painterly pieces. For our current photoshoot we wanted to create something different and colourful. Inspired by interiors Fi had seen on her travels, we decided to adapt the concept using our own colours to create this fun and creative DIY project. The great thing about these sticks is you can move them around easily from room to room and choose your own colour palette to suit your interior. They are a great way to introduce colour and pattern to your living space! Statement Sticks Main Image What you will need:
  • A paintbrush
  • A variety of your chosen paint colours
  • 2 metre wooden sticks – we got ours at a local hardware store!
  • Masking tape
. Firstly, start by drawing pencil marks to section each area off. Then place small pieces of masking tape next to your pencil marks to avoid any colours overlapping into the next. We wanted to do a mix of sizes to really make a statement but of course you can make each section as big or small as you wish! Painted Sticks Image 2 Now for the fun part – painting! We have chosen a selection of Farrow & Ball colours including; ‘Cinder Rose’ – a beautiful blush pink, ‘Pitch Blue’ – a deep, almost purple toned blue, ‘Lichen’ – a blue toned green, Calluna – a tranquil lavender pink, ‘Dix Blue’ – a warm green toned blue, ‘Arsenic’ – a lively and vibrant green, ‘Middleton Pink’ – a soft and delicate pink and ‘Drawing Room Blue’ – an almost regal blue. Each colour will need between 2 and 3 coats to achieve an opaque finish. The sticks can then be placed on top of each other as a wall hanging or simply lean them upright against the wall for a unique and creative design statement!
