Tatreez, the intricate and storied embroidery tradition of Palestine, is renowned for its beauty and cultural depth. In Stitching the Intifada: Embroidery and Resistance in Palestine, Rachel Dedman begins by exploring the regional diversity of historic Palestinian dress before delving into the transformation of tatreez after the 1948 Nakba. Once a traditional craft, it has evolved into a potent symbol of national identity and resistance, playing a significant role during the First Intifada and continuing to inspire contemporary artists today.

All proceeds from this book will support the Palestine Red Crescent Society, providing essential health, social, and humanitarian services to Palestinians.

About the Author Rachel Dedman (b. 1989, London) is a curator, writer, and art historian with a focus on the cultural and political significance of material practices in the Global South. Since 2019, she has served as the Jameel Curator of Contemporary Art from the Middle East at London’s V&A, where she oversees the Jameel Prize exhibition and artist residency programs. Her recent projects include Material Power: Palestinian Embroidery for Kettle’s Yard and The Whitworth in the UK (2023/24) and co-curating the State of Fashion Biennale 2024: Ties that Bind in Arnhem, Netherlands.
