Summer of textiles
In August we are hosting week-long residential craft workshops at Chateau Dumas, a private French estate with 18th century interiors, a pool and panoramic views - set amongst rolling hills in the peaceful countryside just north of Toulouse, France. The four workshops are Botanical Printing with Clarissa Hulse, Recycle, Repair and Reconsider with Mandy Pattullo, Embroidered Images, Working with Silk Organza and Hand Stitch with Emily Jo Gibbs and Making Historic French Mannequins with Susie Vickery. All offer the chance to relax, unwind and be creative.
Botanical Printing with Clarissa Hulse, 8-15 August 2020
You will create printed textiles based on plants found in the local area. Clarissa’s work is based around her botanical finds in nature and she will explain her design process before taking you through printing techniques.
Recycle, Repair and Reconsider with Mandy Pattullo, 8 – 15 August 2020
Join Mandy for a week of relaxed hand stitching where you will build beautiful art works using locally sourced finds. She will share her latest passion for combining cross stitch patterns taken from old samplers with the unpickings of old quilts.
Over the week you will learn how to create delicate textile portraits and still lifes, on a subject of your choice, using layers of silk organza and hand stitch. You may bring your own drawings, photographs and written thoughts to use as inspiration.
Making Historic French Mannequins with Susie Vickery, 22 – 29 August 2020
Create your own hand-stitched French character from a bygone era. Inspired by Susie’s 18th century botanist, and working from historical images or your own imagination, you will make a soft puppet of a male figure.
