Suzan Drummen
Like kitsch versions of Tibetan buddhists' sand mandalas, Drummen's installations are clearly as much about the process and focus of making as the finished result. Each element is placed loosely on the floor or fixed to the wall using pins.
Drummen plays with distance, focus and formality (in all its senses). Each piece seems to be entirely in order and neatly in line with traditional or 'formal' patterns, however, on closer inspection each piece is more chaotic and individual than it initially appears. Similarly Drummen sometimes incorporates people into her pieces, making them funner and more relaxed than most art installations.
