The Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair

The Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair

April 12, 2018
Share

From the 17th to the 22nd of April, The Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair will return to Battersea, London. A family-owned fair that launched in 1985, this event was the first to specifically unite the antiques and interior design trades – and Selvedge readers can now register for a free ticket here.

Antiques dating from the 17th century to 1914 will be on offer all weekend. Art Deco, post-war and later 20th century design makes up around one quarter of objects and furniture for sale. Unlike traditional antiques fairs, each dealer at The Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair will style their stands as room-sets, so that visitors can imagine how items might work in their own homes.

Taking part in the event are a few Selvedge favourites, including Noel Chapman of Bleu Anglais; his company that specialises in original Chinese indigo paste-resist patterned cloth. ‘I’ve always loved and been fascinated by textiles,’ Chapman tells Selvedge. ‘The skills, the techniques, the history and the social significance… When I first stumbled across a stash of indigo-dyed Chinese fabrics I was so excited I had to buy them all and learn as much as I could about them.’

Exhibiting alongside Bleu Anglais will also be seller of linens, workwear and textiles, Su Mason. Offering up her signature mix of textile curiosities from France, Mason can usually be found sourcing her pieces at vintage fairs and markets throughout London, and will be sharing her impeccable taste for fabric at the fair all weekend.

The Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair was the first in the UK to offer a ‘look’ for decorating. From relatively modest beginnings in 1985, it has grown to encompass more than 140 exhibitors from across the UK and Europe. For Selvedge readers who are interested in exploring the many treasures to be found at the fair, you can register online for your free pass here.
