The Eleventh Hour
Curated by Sue Reich, this exhibit documents the quilts of World War I. Long recognised as multi-faceted documents, quilts, when explored, can provide fascinating information both about their makers and the times and circumstances in which they have been made.
The historical, cultural and sociological insights that this group of quilts provide is further enriched by a collection of enlightening extracts from newspapers and magazines of the period. Sending out a call for women to pick up their needles to make quilts as a matter of national pride, the womenfolk were bombarded with a wealth of ideas and needlework tips. Included are Paducah artefacts of the War era provided by the McCracken County Public Library.
