THE FAIR IS HERE
This weekend the Selvedge Fair will arrive at Bath, bringing with it an abundance of beautiful craft and artisanal textiles. With 50 of the UK’s finest merchants and makers who were carefully selected for the event, our exhibitors will sell a range of rare vintage fabrics, covetable haberdashery and skillfully handmade textile treasures. Our pick of the fair’s highlights is the charming drop-in jersey flower workshop, put together in collaboration with the founder of Alabama Chanin, Natalie Chanin herself.
With cotton jersey strips provided at the fair, visitors can create their own beautiful blooms of fabric chrysanthemums, perfect for pretty spring homeware. The Selvedge team has been working with Natalie in the run up to the fair to provide the best quality fabric and easy to follow patterns that produce these stylish Alabama Chanin home accessories. Only using 100% organic cotton jersey for all of her home and clothing designs, Natalie has made a name for herself as a trailblazer for the ethical practice of sustainable textiles.
It takes around 30 minutes in total to create one of these fabric flowers, using nothing but cotton jersey, florist wire, a scissors and a needle and thread. All of the materials will of course be provided at the workshop over the course of the fair, so all visitors need bring is their creativity. A perfect opportunity to add a bit of springtime air to your home, it’s also a great chance to meet some fellow makers and catch up with old friends over craft.
