The LOEWE Craft Prize 2018
In 2016, the LOEWE Foundation launched the international annual LOEWE Craft Prize to showcase and celebrate newness, excellence and artistic merit in modern craftsmanship. And launching this week in advance of London Craft Week, the LOEWE Craft Prize exhibition will be held at the city's renowned Design Museum from 4 May - 17 June.
Featuring the works of 25 finalists from around the world, this show sheds a spotlight on craft in today’s culture, recognising artisans whose talent, vision and will to innovate set new standards in the contemporary craft landscape. This exhibition seeks to reflect the merits of modern craftsmanship through imagination, diversity, and techniques that attest to the crucial role artisans play in the ongoing construction of cultural heritage.
Spanning ceramics, jewellery, textiles, woodwork, glass, metalwork, furniture, papercraft and lacquer, the finalists’ entries function as a multigenerational snapshot of the utmost excellence in craft today. On May 3rd the winner will be announced, earning themselves the cash prize of €50,000, but more importantly, a platform from which to champion excellence in contemporary craft.
