The Selvedge Sale

On Saturday November 4th, for one day only, a sample sale of dry goods will be held in Selvedge’s north London store. This is a one-off chance to buy from Selvedge’s curated collection of hand-crafted products at 50% of their normal retail price. The Selvedge store is a haven of textile treasures, and each product is made by skilled and talented people who use time-honoured techniques from all corners of the globe. Included in the sale is the work of Danish born Bess Nielsen, otherwise known as the creative mind behind the textiles brand Khadi & Co. Inspired by Mahatma Gandi’s Swadeshi, the movement that promoted Indian goods in the early 20th century, Nielsen conveys the true spirit of khadi cloth by celebrating the remarkable craft of Indian artisans. Another designer whose work crosses continents is Thibault Van Der Straete, and we’re delighted to include his beautiful homeware textiles as part of Saturday’s sample sale. Born in France and living in Peru, Van Der Straete follows in Nielsen’s footsteps and digs deep into heritage, exploring Peruvian craft and cloth with a special eye for hand-spun and hand-woven alpaca yarn, pushing against the forces of fast fashion.

Journeying still from south to north America, the works of California-based textile artist Jess Brown also join the ranks of this very special sale. Each of Brown’s quirky dolls are cut and stitched exclusively for the Selvedge store, and are made from the most luxurious fabrics such as cashmere and antique remnants.
