THE SEWING WORKSHOPS

For 25 years, Linda Lee has been studying how women dress. As founder of The Sewing Workshop pattern company, she has watched the evolution of style through the years, from tailored jackets to joggers. Through it all, she has created garment patterns that distill the essence of the high end designers that she admires – Issey Miyake, Etro, and Dolce and Gabbana, to name just a few – with everyday wearability.
As her career has evolved, Lee has become more interested in teaching students how to "sew better than they can buy”; thus, she considers each pattern released by The Sewing Workshop as a teaching tool. During the design process, she makes note of techniques, variations, and fabrication opportunities afforded by the pattern. These are featured in Sew Confident!, a yearly online sewing education program.

This year Sew Confident! is focused on creating a capsule wardrobe. Each month, members receive an online video that focuses on constructing a featured garment. These classes really dive into the details of dressmaking. From sewing mitered corners to executing the perfect collar and stand, Sew Confident! includes Lee's signature sewing techniques. Members also get access to optional kits with carefully curated fabric options that are created to work across the full wardrobe.

However, personal style doesn’t come straight out of the pattern envelope. When you know how to sew, you have a golden opportunity to create looks personalized to your taste. To that end, Linda shares ideas for creating pattern variations on her free weekly videos. Whether you want to make a small tweak like shortening the sleeves, or you want to transform a shirt into a dress, Linda empowers sewers to create their own look.
