The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show
We're very excited about The Spring Knitting & Stitching show this year. With over 200 exhibitors the show already promises to be packed full of essential supplies, materials, knowledge and inspiration. And with six professionally curated textile galleries the show will no doubt feel like its own kingdom, rich in imaginative textiles and knowledge.
One exhibitor we're particularly keen to meet this year is Jessica Dance and her Material World. Jessica's knitted worlds may appear light hearted and playful but her exhibit will "raise the subject of how the middle class are funding their lifestyle since the banking crisis and how people’s opinion and use of pawn shops has altered in that time. It also brings into question our attachment to material objects and the price we value them at compared to their actual worth an interesting theme reflected in the world of art. When the net worth of an object is not only determined by its material, but also by the time, love and status given to it by its creator."
Jessica is a model maker and she specialises in hand crafted models, props and sets. Her work has featured in TV adverts and her clients include Liberty, Vogue and Google.
One of the brilliant things about The Knitting & Stitching Show is that you always have the opportunity to leave both inspired and knowledgable. This year's workshops, demonstrations and one-off events cover a range of interests and abilities. For those that have walked away from Jessica Dance's Material World wanting to make but not knowing where to begin, there will be free drop-in knitting and stitching lessons hosted by volunteers from the UK Hand Knitting Association. With 'How to crochet' being number 3 in Google's 2014 top 10 'how to' searches, and fans ranging from Meryl Streep to Harry Styles, crocheting or knitting could be for you. But no matter what your experience with making is, there is sure to be a workshop, lesson or demonstration for you. Check The Spring Knitting & Stitching Show website for more details.
