WARMING CHALKWOVENS
Out of the many exhibitors taking part in the Selvedge Fair this weekend, we’ve gone through the roster full of outstanding artisans, and chosen one design studio that might give our readers a sense of what wonderful craftsmanship to expect in Bath’s Assembly Rooms this Saturday. Chalk Wovens is the textile company founded by Kerry Stokes and Richard Bush that offers contemporary woven products all designed and woven in the UK. Now with the fair just days away, we’re really looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table…
Kerry, the textile-minded half of this duo, has already accomplished a lot in her career as a woven textiles artisan. Creating products for makers all over the world from Japan to New York and Europe, she has used her broad-ranging and highly detailed knowledge of materials and techniques to imbue a subtle blend of pattern and colour into this relatively new venture.
With a background in ceramics at Farnham, Richard comes at their fabric design from a wide-angled interiors perspective. Together their backgrounds blend to produce some of the UK’s most beautiful textiles, woven with sincerity and warmth in south England. Making throws, blankets and cushions elegantly designed with captivating patterns, the pair behind this craft studio has been working together for over 30 years now, going from strength to strength.
To see Chalkwovens latest textiles, head to the Selvedge Fair taking place in Bath’s splendorous Assembly Rooms this Saturday, 25 March. Admission £5.
