If you’re looking for something to do with the last weekend of the summer holiday season then this three-day festival could be just the thing. Entry is free to Whitworth Weekending; a farewell to Whitworth Art Gallery as it is, and a celebration of its imminent refurbishment. I studied History of Art at Manchester University and the Whitworth was the first building I ever walked into in Manchester and my spiritual home. I loved it quirkiness and human scale – it was like going to visit a very well-connected, favourite aunt! That mix of art and textiles…bliss!
Visiting Dovecot Studios ‘Weaving the Century’ exhibition last year and coming face to face with Sir Eduardo Paolozzi’s Whitworth tapestry took me straight back to the joy and excitement of my Whitworth days.
