Wool Week's Woollen BnB
Around the world, there are many novel places to spend a night. Bolivia is home to the Palacio de Sal: a hotel constructed entirely from salt. Sweden has the aptly named ‘Icehotel’. Japan is famously the place to go to experience capsule hotels, which involve sliding into a futuristic sleep-pod for the night. And now London is going to be home to the world’s first ‘Wool Bnb’ – a sitting-room and several bedrooms furnished entirely with woollen items.
To mark Wool Week taking place from 10 – 16 October, this cosy abode has been designed to showcase the versatility and luxurious quality of the material. Everything – from the mattresses on the beds, to the nightwear and clothing on display, to the interior decorations – will be made from wool. If this isn’t exciting enough for fans of the fibre, it is also worth mentioning that the Wool Bnb will be operating as an actual B & B; the exclusive opportunity to stay overnight in this unique lodging will be offered to some lucky visitors.
Wool Week will be a celebration of all things woolly, organised by the Campaign For Wool. Over the course of the seven days, a variety of talks, workshops, film screenings and other activities will be taking place. The aim of Wool Week is to promote wool as a natural, renewable and biodegradable material, but will also be an opportunity for textile-lovers to learn more about creative scope that the fibre offers.
Aa part of the celebration Selvedge will be hosting a ‘We Love Wool’ Symposium. This exciting event will involve several guest speakers, a ‘Fibre Tasting’ session, a shearing demonstration and a Q&A at the end with a representative from the British Wool Marketing Board. It promises to be an interesting and eye-opening experience, much like a night spent in a woollen hotel.
