Selvedge
An extension of the print magazine’s tone of respect, intelligence and joy in the world of textiles, our blog is a daily contribution to the Selvedge conversation. Featuring exhibitions, people, adventures and opinion, the Selvedge blog is not only a meeting point for the Selvedge community but also an entry point into the world of textiles for those looking for an original and broadening perspective.

It took us a moment to realise that Sally Weatherill's trio of owls were actually the three wise men in feathered form (owls equal wisdom... very clever!) www.sallyweatherill.co.uk

Teresa Green's advent square was printed using water-based ink in the old stable block where she works in the village of Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire. We love the way Teresa has embraced the 'Handmade Holiday' theme - with hand-drawn robins and snow aplenty. www.teresagreen.co.uk

Last year Rob Ryan designed a beautiful Christmas decoration and card for our event at Burgh House in Hampstead. This year he was kind enough to contribute a romantic little number for our advent calendar - his hand-cut square is better than mistletoe. He has also recently transformed the Visitor Centre at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park with his cutouts and screen prints until 21 Feb 2010. www.rob-ryan.blogspot.com

Timorous Beasties seem to be having a 'bah humbug' moment... their advent square has a slightly somber aesthetic, maybe they are a bit behind with their Christmas shopping? Do not despair - there are still 21 shopping days left. You can see more of their work in issue 30 and at www.timorousbeasties.com

Our multi-talented Listings Editor Gemma (and her Nanny Kath) created twenty-four advent covers to conceal each work until the appropriate December date. The covers were created using vintage fabrics and looked so smart in the window that we chose to leave one of them up to mark the very beginning of advent. Seasons greetings from all at Selvedge.
