Molly Mahon is a textile designer based in East Sussex who specialises in the art of block printing. This February, Molly will launch the Greencombe Collection, a selection of cottons and linens designed in Sussex and block printed by hand in Rajasthan, India. Molly finds her greatest peace and happiness in nature. From the hills of Scotland to the vibrant flower fields of India, the joyful colours of nature’s offerings inspire her endlessly. She is delighted to celebrate the imaginative abundance of the outdoors in her new collection Greencombe.
The Greencombe collection is a whimsical and nostalgic love letter to the outdoor scenes that nourish Molly’s imagination. Motifs of strawberries, tulips, primroses and wild carrot recall the sweetness of springtime in England. Block prints depict the earthy stripes formed by a plough working the land while little scattered seeds bring to mind the hope of new beginnings. Ever faithful to the inspiration of Molly’s travels, the collection features new interpretations of the majestic Mughal flower designs of India. The Greencombe palette strikes an elegant balance between the dazzling, bold colours of the cities of India with the subtle earth tones of the English countryside. This provides a range of options for those seeking sophistication with a touch of joyful charm.
The botanical motifs of the Greencombe collection not only highlight the beauty of the great outdoors, but recognise and respect the value of nature as something to behold and protect. Molly is thrilled to celebrate her reverence for nature’s wonder with this new collection. Last year, Molly sent her initial drawings from her studio in East Sussex to Rajasthan, the heart of block printing. Today, highly skilled craftsmen are meticulously block printing her drawings by hand on a luscious range of linen and cotton cloths.
