Katie Taylor - Karun Thakar Online Exhibition

Taken online because of the current pandemic this African Textiles exhibition was originally exhibited at the Brunei Gallery, School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

The exhibition shows the huge collection of Asafo flags from Ghana that were collected by Karun Thakar in the mid 90’s. The flags have been digitally repaired to provide the viewer with the best visual experience and they provide a much needed historical perspective on flags used by the Asafo people. Thakar hopes to publishing a book on them in the future.

The online exhibition is broken down into three sections;

• Section 1 19th century and early 1900’s
• Section 2 1920’s to 1957, Ghana’s Independence
• Section 3 1957 to 1970’s
