Austria, Vienna, The Modesammlung of the Wien Museum
The Modesammlung of the Wien Museum is one of Europe’s most significant fashion and costume collections, documenting clothing and related accessories from the 18th century through the 20th century within the wider cultural history of Vienna. With nearly 30,000 garments, accessories and fashion objects, it includes men’s, women’s, children’s and sporting dress alongside fans, hats, bags, gloves and other accoutrements that illuminate evolving social customs, materials and styles. Although the collection itself is typically not on permanent public display due to conservation needs, selections are regularly featured in thematic exhibitions and research presentations that bring historic fashion to life.
