This handwoven tote is made from wild Himalayan nettle fibre, foraged and processed by rural communities in Bhutan before being spun, woven and stitched entirely by hand. Woven in a simple plain weave on a traditional backstrap loom, it is finished with subtle embroidery inspired by Bhutanese prayer flags. Soft grey tones derived from dogwood create a calm, understated palette, while madder-dyed accents bring warmth and gentle contrast to the design.
The making of each bag encompasses every stage of production, from harvesting the nettle fibre to spinning, weaving and stitching by hand. Variations in colour, weave and finish are a natural part of this process and reflect the individuality of the maker and the handmade nature of the piece.
