Bonita Ahuja
Bonita makes hand crafted textiles, using simple equipment and techniques with distinctive colour, texture and detail.
Bonita balances her Eastern heritage with her Western training, imagining her work as a confluence of different cultures. She creates modern and contemporary textiles imbued with simplicity and naïveté found in traditional and folk textiles.
The collection encompasses of hand woven and hand stitched fabrics, including assembled pieces using sourced and found materials with great emphasis on integrating old and vintage pieces.
The textiles are free to be interpreted for use- shawls and scarves or screens and throws. The offcuts and samples from the handwoven fabrics are turned into textile art collages as well as cushions.
Bonita’s textiles have been commissioned for the Dior suite at The St Regis Hotel, New York, featured in the New York Times and have sold in some of the most influential design shops around the world including Browns and Mint in the UK; Ochre and Anthropologie in the USA; and The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark.
