India, Maku Textiles, Mahdi dress
This ensemble consists of a garment and a scarf: A sleeveless, relaxed round neck, box pleat, panelled, midi length, jamdani brocade dress with yoke, gathers at sides and embroidery detail at the side yoke. It is paired with a handwoven cotton silk scarf with jamdani brocade patterns in natural indigo.
This garment is made special by the adaptive use of the traditional brocade design of the floral creeper on a chequered fabric. Simple embroidery details add an element of surprise.
Maku’s designs are contextual to community, practices and individual skill sets. The fabric is handwoven in the villages of West Bengal (India) by traditional brocade weavers. It is a contemporary adaptation of the age-old craft of jamdani weaving.
This product is handwoven and hand-dyed. Any irregularities only add to the beauty of the textile.
Natural dyed garments may vary in appearance over time.
