India, Maku Textiles, Ostaad Scarf
An exclusive handwoven scarf in a blend of mulberry silk and home-spun cotton with fully brocaded white on white motifs all over. Accents of indigo dyed inlay shine through in parts. This product comes in a special fine muslin packaging.
This is a limited edition Maku Heirloom piece. Maku Heirloom displays exclusive, fine, intricate craftsmanship in the jamdani weaving tradition of West Bengal (India). These lost skills of the loom have been brought back to life through Maku’s continuous intervention with the weavers through the
last decade, gradually inching them forward towards finer craftsmanship, and taking them on a journey back in time to an era when exquisite jamas woven by their ancestors were adorned by the Nawabs of Bengal, and noble patrons alike.
The weaving of these heirloom specimens, not only brings markedly increased income for the weaver and his family, but also brings greater sense of pride in their heritage craft, and serves as an example to fellow community members as to what wonders their tradition can bring forth.
This product is handwoven. Any irregularities only add to the beauty of the textile.
