Louvre Couture: Art and Fashion: Statement Piece
24 January – 24 August 2025, Musée du Louvre.
Louvre Couture is a landmark exhibition that places fashion at the heart of the world’s most visited museum. Spanning 9,000 square metres and featuring nearly 100 extraordinary garments, it brings together couture masterpieces from the likes of Dior, Balenciaga, Iris Van Herpen, Chanel, McQueen, and many more. Curated by Olivier Gabet, the exhibition seamlessly integrates contemporary fashion into the museum’s opulent interiors—pairing 3D-printed gowns with suits of armour, and brocade coats with Louis XIV furnishings. The result is a poetic dialogue between past and present, where couture appears to step straight from historic tapestries and oil paintings. The show invites visitors to explore slowly and attentively, discovering hidden treasures in overlooked corners of the Richelieu wing. Louvre Couture is both a bold statement and a visual feast - reclaiming fashion’s place within the fine arts and transforming the museum into a living, breathing catwalk of history.
