The Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode celebrates the exceptional heritage of lace-making in northern France, housed in a restored 19th-century lace factory that was once central to Calais-Caudry’s industrial textile legacy. Its vast galleries trace the history of lace from pre-industrial handwork to mechanised production, and explore the connection between technique, fashion and culture through collections of historic lingerie, couture and contemporary textile art. A highlight of the visit is the demonstration of monumental lace-weaving looms in action, while rotating exhibitions, workshops and educational programmes bring textile craft and design to life across generations.
