France, Lyon, Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs
The Bayeux Tapestry Museum celebrates one of the most remarkable artefacts of medieval narrative art — the nearly 70-metre embroidered cloth that depicts the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 by William, Duke of Normandy. Commissioned in the 11th century, this extraordinary work of needlework combines visual storytelling, historical drama and technical vernacular to offer a vivid picture of conquest, politics and daily life in the Middle Ages. Traditionally exhibited in Bayeux, the Tapestry has been inscribed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register and remains central to European textile heritage.
