The Deutsches Textilmuseum in Krefeld is one of Germany’s foremost textile museums, housing an internationally significant collection of around 30,000 historic textiles, garments and cloths from across the world and through the ages. Because historic textiles are particularly sensitive to light and climate, the museum does not display a permanent collection; instead it presents rotating thematic exhibitions that explore the art, craft and cultural history of textiles in focussed, changing displays. The museum also supports research, conservation, teaching and public programmes, including guided tours and workshops that connect visitors with the making, meaning and materiality of cloth.
