Woven in Bhutan using the traditional Hor weaving style, this throw showcases the supplementary warp technique that creates subtle pattern and depth within the cloth. The design incorporates the Dorji (Vajra) motif sparingly, adding a quiet layer of symbolism rooted in Bhutanese textile traditions.
Following customary weaving practice, the throw is woven in two separate panels and meticulously hand-stitched together, reflecting the width limitations of the backstrap loom. Its rich madder-red ground is balanced by deep brown-black tones derived from gooseberry leaves and mud, with delicate accents created using symplocos, marigold, artemisia, onion skins and dogwood leaves. Finished with hand-twisted fringes, the piece celebrates both technical mastery and the expressive possibilities of natural colour.
Each throw is made entirely by hand. Variations in weave, colour and finish are an inherent part of the making process and reflect the individuality of the artisan, making every piece unique.
