Description (story of the item): This dupatta is a collaboration of two traditional craft techniques, the natural indigo dyeing and chikankari. The design is traditional but innovatively used to create a diamond pattern interspersed with small motifs. Embroidery has been done independently by an artisan Shahnaz at home .The dhaniya (split coriander) stitch has been extensively used. The jaali (pulled thread work) has been made by Rekha.The edges of the dupatta have been finished with java (triangular appliqué) on all sides. Pure cotton thread dyed into kora (unbleached thread)colour is used to embroider. A hundred and forty days work has gone into completing the whole product.
Materials: Natural tussar silk fabric hand woven in Bhagalpur district of Bihar state, with mulberry silk warp and kosa silk yarn in the weft.The silk fibre is sourced from silk producing farms. Natural indigo dyeing was done in Kutch in the state of Gujarat.
