India, Karomi Crafts & Textiles, Indigo Multiple Square Jamdani Stole
Product name: Indigo Multiple Square Jamdani Stole
Type of product: Stole
Description (story of the item):
Inspired by the universal ubiquitous "dot", this piece showcases the unimposing square in myriad ways, transcending the ordinary and redefining the classic. The stole is at once, both rustic and urbane. Hand-dyed in natural dyes, the use of fine hand-spun cotton in the weft, gives the fabric its subtle, grainy texture and an amazingly soft hand-feel. Gicha (handspun silk) and cotton have been used to weave in motifs. This time and skill intensive stole takes the artisans community approximately 35 to 40 days to make.
At Karomi, we make 'design-driven’ Jamdani. Jamdani weave has been an integral part of Bengali tradition. Intricate motifs are woven in directly on the loom using the ‘extra weft’ weaving style. This historic craft has been passed down from generations through intense practice and discreet instructions followed by the Jamdani weavers of Bengal (India).
A Karomi Jamdani is different from the usual. It is characterised by randomness in design patterns and whimsical play of forms with large or no repeats, thus guaranteeing an 'authentic' Jamdani that is both artistic and future forward.
