India, Karomi Crafts & Textiles, Indigo Random Diamond Full Sleeve Jamdani Overlay
Product name: Indigo Random Diamond Full sleeve Jamdani Overlay
Type of product: Garment (long overlay)
Description (story of the item):
The overlay is made with handwoven Jamdani fabric, yarn-dyed in natural indigo. It is a part of the Khaddar Kona fabric collection. Kona - as in angled – is a collection characterized by angled patterns inspired by the inlay work in the monuments of medieval India. The fabric is woven using fine hand spun cotton in the weft. It is soft and translucent in stark contrast to its "angled" theme. Gicha (hand-spun silk) and hand-twisted yarn have been used to weave the motifs. Gicha striped indigo fabric makes the back of the overlay. Inseam pockets and interesting side godet panelling detailed with hand stitched kantha embroidery further exemplify the garment.
At Karomi, the characteristic feature of our garments is our ‘hand-woven, design-driven Jamdani' fabric. Jamdani weave has been an integral part of Bengali tradition. Intricate motifs are woven in directly on the loom using the ‘extra weft’ weaving style. This historic craft has been passed down from generations through intense practice and discreet instructions followed by the Jamdani weavers of Bengal (India).
A Karomi Jamdani is different from the usual. It is characterised by randomness in design patterns and whimsical play of forms with large or no repeats, thus guaranteeing an 'authentic' Jamdani that is both artistic and future forward.
Materials: Hand dyed in natural indigo, combination of fine mill-spun cotton and hand spun cotton
