Kate Rickard
Kate Rickard's love of textiles began at an early age. She grew up in a home filled with craft, surrounded daily by the creativity and talent of her mother, a gifted textile designer and teacher.
This upbringing led her to study textiles at university, where she specialised in surface design and embroidery. After graduating, Kate began designing embroidery for high street fashion and creating handmade evening bags, which were stocked in stores across London and Europe, including with brands such as Paul Smith and Erickson Beamon.
Later her career took her into the world of homewares, where she travelled across Europe and Asia buying for various high street and luxury brands.
Today, Kate finds herself returning to where it all began: the happy pursuit of stitching and taking inspiration from her surroundings. She now specialises in freehand embroidered illustration and handmade accessories and homewares. These include decorative bags, framed art, embroidery kits and seasonal decorations. She works intuitively, creating textures and pictures that speak of life, memory, and love. For her, embroidery is both a connection to the past and a grounding creative practice in the present.
She also run a number of workshops to teach the practice of hand embroidery. With a focus on coming together for a calm and restorative day.
