Nisha Subramaniam - Kullvi Whims
Kullvi Whims is a women-led social enterprise from the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, founded in 2012 by Nisha Subramaniam and Brighu Raj Acharya. The brand’s name marries “Kullvi” (referring to the valley) with “Whims” to reflect the delight the artisan-women bring to their craft, adding unique touches, motifs and patterns from the heart of their creative instinct.
Working in collaboration with the Gaddi pastoral community and over 400 artisan households, Kullvi Whims sources indigenous Himalayan wool (Desi Oon) shepherded through the high mountain pastures. This wool is hand-spun, naturally dyed using local flora, and woven or knitted by women artisans skilled in traditional craft methods.
Each piece, from sweaters to blankets and shawls, reflects the rhythm of mountain life, slow craft processes and deep cultural heritage. The enterprise has become a meaningful model of sustainability and community-driven production, offering fair livelihoods and celebrating craft traditions that might otherwise vanish.
Kullvi Whims’s collections tell stories of place, lineage and creative freedom, woven by hands in the Himalayas, brought to life for global audiences.
