Join textile artist Kate Rickard for a gentle and grounding embroidery session where you will learn to stitch on beautiful block-printed fabrics. Kate brings a wealth of knowledge from a lifelong journey with textiles, having worked across fashion and design before returning to her roots in freehand embroidery.
This calming workshop invites you to explore how embroidery can enhance and transform printed cloth, creating a layered, tactile piece that is entirely your own.
Guided by Kate, you will begin to see how a single thread can bring new depth and movement to pattern. Whether you choose to highlight the motifs or introduce contrast, the process is intuitive and deeply personal. The rhythmic nature of stitching makes this an ideal practice for those seeking a creative escape and a slower way to make.
At the end of the workshop, you will have the option to turn your embroidery into a picture, pouch, or keepsake. You may also choose to send your completed work to be professionally finished as a keepsake bag.
All materials are provided, and all skill levels are welcome. Materials include embroidery hoops, needles, block-printed base fabrics, and a wide range of threads. You will also receive a selection of printed swatches to take home and continue your practice. Reference materials and sample work will be available for inspiration throughout the session.
You will leave with a unique embroidered piece started on block-printed fabric, a set of swatches to keep experimenting with, and the confidence to continue exploring embroidery in your own way.
